Analysis Mode and Design Mode

Foundation3D:

Foundation3D is capable of both analyzing and designing a spread foundation. Choose Analysis mode if pier and footing dimensions are known. Choose Design mode if pier and footing dimensions are to be determined.

When you select the “Analysis” or “Design” mode the inputs and outputs change depending on the mode selected.

In Analysis mode, inputs include all workspace settings, equipment geometry, footing and pier geometry, load cases, load combinations, pile layout (if pile-supported foundation), and anchor bolts.

In Design mode, inputs include all workspace settings, equipment geometry, design parameters, and anchor bolt.

Combined Footings

For a combined footing, design mode is available for exchanger and horizontal vessel foundations only.

For a miscellaneous combined footing, only analysis mode can be exercised.

Design Parameters

Design parameters depend on the type of equipment foundation selected.

For exchangers and horizontal vessels, design parameters include:

-Footing Parameters (including foundation type, i.e. soil or pile supported)

-Pier/Base Plate Parameters

-Combined Footing Criteria

-Constrained Footing and Pier Dimensions

-Consider equal dimensions for fixed and sliding supports

For vertical vessels, design parameters include

-Footing Parameters

-Pier/Base Plate Parameters

-Octagonal Footing Criteria

For miscellaneous foundations, design parameters include

-Footing Parameters

-Pier/Base Plate Parameters

-Octagonal Footing Criteria

-Constrained Footing and Pier Dimensions

Mat3D:

Mat3D allows Analysis and Design modes for a single mat and footing group workspace types. When these types of workspaces are opened, two buttons "Analysis" and "Design" are displayed to the left of the Workspace commands buttons. For additional details on how these affect the foundation design of these types of workspaces, refer to the help topic "Design Mode" under the chapters "Footing Design" and "Footing Group".
