Parameters such as yield strength, unit weight, modulus of elasticity, temperature and shrinkage ratio, and pier and footing rebar spacing may be set here. If in App Settings, the values entered here will become the defaults for all subsequent new projects.
Partial Safety Factor for Reinforcement:
For BSI Code, a safety factor for reinforcement can be specified depending on the selected reinforcement yield strength. This factor is set to 1.15 for BSI 8110 1997, even if you change it since the 1984 code called for this value. However this value can be set to 1.15 or 1.05 as suggested in BSI 8110 for the 1997 code.
Pier Rebar Spacing:
The min rebar spacing refers to the min center to center bar spacing between the pier vertical bars that must be considered in determining the rebar pattern in the pier. The max number of bars per pier refers to the maximum number of bars that the program must consider prior to quitting the trial and error solution used to determine the concrete capacity of the pier. This number does not mean the desired number of maximum bars in the pier and therefore this field must contain a large number such as 1000 or similar.
Consider Vertical Bar Spacing Limit:
Checking this parameter considers the pier vertical bar spacing requirements of the selected concrete design code to determine the number of bars in the pedestal.
Temperature and Shrinkage Steel Ratio (Minimum Steel Ratio):
This ratio refers to the minimum reinforcing steel ratio that must be provided in the footing if the stresses caused due to applied loads do not govern the reinforcement design of the footing. This ratio is code dependent. By default, the steel area based on the specified ratio is provided in the bottom level only.
Footing Crack Control:
Checking this parameter and entering a maximum footing spacing limit value considers the maximum footing spacing during footing reinforcement design.
Use separate rebar parameters for piers and footing:
Checking this option displays two additional sections on this page in addition to the section Reinforcing Steel Parameters containing yield strength, unit weight and modulus of elasticity properties:
Pier Longitudinal Reinforcing Steel Parameters
Pier Tie Reinforcing Steel Parameters
The original section "Reinforcing Steel Parameters" contains parameters that are used for footing design. Pier longitudinal and tie reinforcing steel parameters allow input of different values of yield strength, unit weight of steel and modulus of elasticity of steel for design of piers.
If this option is unchecked, the pier and footing design are both based on the parameters specified under "Reinforcing Steel Parameters".
Epoxy Coated Rebar:
Checking this option "Use Epoxy Coated Rebar" will enable development length calculations to use epoxy coated rebar factors. Some concrete design codes do not have epoxy coated rebar provisioning. In this case selecting this option will not have any impact on the calculation results.
