Pile Parameters

To set pile parameters, click on the Pile Tab in Workspace Settings. Parameters such as pile type, shape, size, embedment, edge distance, min/max spacing, inner ring radius, and ring spacing may be set here. Additionally, considerations related to group reduction and pile reaction resistance can be set here.  If in App Settings, the values entered here will become the defaults for all subsequent new files.

Pile Capacities (see Allowables):

In Allowables page, enter the compression, tension and lateral capacities of the piles.

Ring Pile Pattern

Inner Ring Radius: For a ring pile pattern, specify the first or the inner ring radius from the center of the pile cap. Under the analysis mode, the program will use this ring radius as the inner most ring radius. Under the design mode, this ring radius may or may not be reached since the program generates minimum even numbered piles satisfying the required criteria.

Ring spacing: For a ring pile pattern, specify the spacing between rings. Under the analysis mode, the program uses this spacing to fill the rings to generate maximum even numbered piles. Under the design mode also, the program uses this spacing to fill the rings to generate minimum number of piles that will satisfy the required criteria.

Pile Group Reduction:

If pile group reduction is desired, enter the reduction percent and chose the pile capacities to which you wish to apply the reduction factor. The pile group reduction is applied to all pile patterns. A value of -1 instructs the program to compute the pile group reduction factor for rectangular pile patterns. For other pile pattern types, a value of -1 does not automatically calculate the pile group capacity reduction factor. If a group reduction percent value > 0 is specified, the selected options of applying reduction to pile capacities will be used in reducing the pile capacities by specified percent for all pile patterns.

For rectangular pile patterns, when the group reduction percent considered is set to -1 and if the option to consider group reduction is selected, the program uses Converse-Labarre equation to determine the reduction factor or pile group efficiency factor for reducing the pile capacities when the piles are closely spaced.

It is determined using the below formula:

E = 1 - Q*(((n-1)m + (m-1)n) / 90mn)

Here, E is the pile group efficiency, m is the row count, n is the column count, Q is tan-1(d/s) in degrees, d is diameter of the pile and s is the spacing of piles centre to centre.

Consider Pile Reaction Resistance to Punching Shear:

When this parameter is selected the pile reaction resistance to punching shear is considered. For more information refer to the topic Punching Shear.
