To create a new workspace (individual foundation design) within a project, press the new workspace button in the Workspace Toolbar. You may create as many workspaces as you like within the same project.
When "New Workspace" button is clicked, a Workspace Wizard window displays, to allow selection of how the workspace should be created. The order of windows in Workspace Wizard displayed are as follows:
Workspace Type Window
Workspace Data Window
Workspace Settings Window
New Workspace Summary Window
Foundation3D:
Workspace Type Window:
Choose from one of the following types of equipment (or miscellaneous) foundation design workspaces such as Exchanger, Horizontal Vessel, Vertical Vessel, Miscellaneous and Tank Ringwall. The workspace will then have the relevant pages for equipment information
Workspace Data Window:
Choose from 2 options: Default Data (use default geometries based on workspace type selected) or Imported Data (Import data from a source).
Note: Even though Imported Data is available as an option for a tank ringwall workspace in Foundation3D, 2021R1 release does not support any imported data type for this type of workspace.
Workspace Settings Window
If workspace data type selected was Default Data, this window will request a workspace name with a default name of "New Workspace"
If workspace data type selected was Imported Data, this window will provide the following options:
Microsoft Excel - This type is an Excel file containing the input data in a specific format.
Refer to Legacy Export Utility to learn about how legacy Foundation3D (version 6.5.0 or older) input files can be exported to Excel format.
Legacy Product - This type is the XML file generated from legacy Foundation3D
Staad - This import type consists of specifying an Excel file (.xlsx) containing Staad support node names and support reactions, and/or specifying a node geometry input file. For more details refer to STAAD Import
Etabs - This import type consists of specifying an Excel file (.xlsx) containing Etabs support node names and support reactions, and/or specifying a node geometry input file. For more details refer to ETABS import
PV Elite - This type is a JSON file containing data exported from PV Elite
For each of the above import types, a data file must be specified so that the data is imported in the new workspace. For additional details regarding integration of PV Elite with Foundation3D, please refer to PV Elite Import.
New Workspace Summary Window
This is the final summary window that displays the type of workspace created with a little summary of the workspace such as type of equipment, design Code, units, number of load cases and combinations that will be used in creating the new workspace.
Mat3D:
Workspace Type Window:
Choose from one of the following types of foundation design workspaces - Single Mat, Footing Group or Irregular Mat
Single Mat Workspace Type - This workspace type allows designing a single mat footing supporting multiple load points
Footing Group Workspace Type - This workspace type allows creating and designing multiple footings of the same structure such as a building or a set of piperacks that have something in common and therefore can be considered a group or other similar scenario. For more information on footing group workspace, refer to the chapter "Footing Group".
Irregular Mat Workspace Type - This workspace type allows designing a soil supported irregular shaped single mat footing supporting multiple load points, cutouts or holes. For details on how to create an irregular-shaped footing geometry, refer to Irregular Footing Geometry
Workspace Data Window:
Choose from 2 options: Default Data (use default geometries based on workspace type selected) or Imported Data (Import data from a source). The "Imported Data" is available for Single Mat and Footing Group type workspaces only.
Legacy Product - This type is the XML file generated from legacy Mat3D
Staad - This import type consists of specifying an Excel file (.xlsx) containing Staad support node names and support reactions, and/or specifying a node geometry input file. For more details refer to STAAD Import
Etabs - This import type consists of specifying an Excel file (.xlsx) containing Etabs support node names and support reactions, and/or specifying a node geometry input file. For more details refer to ETABS import
GT Strudl - This type is a JSON file containing data exported from GT Strudl. For more details refer to GT Strudl Import.
For each of the above import types, a data file must be specified so that the data is imported in the new workspace. For import from GT Strudl there is an additional check box to allow or not allow import of load cases as load combinations. For additional details regarding integration of GT Strudl with Mat3D, please refer to GT Strudl Import.
New Workspace Summary Window
This is the final summary window that displays the type of workspace created with a little summary of the workspace such as type of equipment, design Code, units, number of load cases and combinations that will be used in creating the new workspace.
